Summer Activities for Pack 8

Pack 8 has various activities throughout the summer to:

  • Have fun
  • Get a head start on the next rank
  • See their fellow scouts
  • Earn special awards

On Saturday, May 13 (yeah, not yet officially summer, but after our final Pack meeting), many members of Pack 8 and their families will participate in the Hike-o-ree event in central Philadelphia, visiting sites from the movie, “National Treasure,” which we’ll show in its entirety following our final Pack Meeting on Sat. 5/5. The trip will start with a caravan leaving Greenawalds UCC at 6:30 am that morning, include a train ride from Lansdale into central Philadelphia, and scouts and their families can choose from between the full 10 mile hike and a shorter, slightly less than 5 mile version for younger scouts and those not looking for quite so much of a challenge.

On Tuesday, June 20, we will have a fishing expedition to Johnsons’ Pond (scroll down to find listing and directions; there is no separate page for the pond) in North Whitehall.

On Tuesday, July 11, scouts will learn about Levers, and begin work toward earning the NOVA: Swing Award, a program designed to help Scouts explore how engineering and simple machines called levers affect everyday life. For more information, click the following link: NOVA: Swing.

From Sunday, July 30 – Saturday, August 5, at least seven members (total confirmed as of this writing) of Pack 8 will attend Summer Camp at Akelaland, along with leaders Jim Muscatell and Andrew Grim. They’ll learn valuable skills and earn achievements toward their next ranks, as well has having a boatload of fun. Opportunities for participating in extra awards such as the “Frozen Froggie,” and in fun, informal contests (including in past years: Belly Flop contest, a “karaoke” lip-synching contest, among others).

We will have at least one more optional, informal meeting sometime in August.

Keep on the lookout here, on our Calendar, and in your e-mail inbox for information about when it will be.

Webelos Geocaching Hike

On Saturday, October 29, the Webelos den took a Geocaching hike at Wehr’s Dam Bridge Park. In a landslide victory, EVERY geocache we found was located by a member of the Roy family! Pictures hopefully soon to follow!

(we’re still waiting for some photo clearance forms to be returned to Packmaster Ed Rothrock, so if you haven’t turned yours in yet, please do! We’ll have some pics up as soon as they’re all in!)

Cub Pack 8 Schedule

“Get to know Troop 8” – Sat. 10/22

Troop 8 has invited all of Pack 8 to a “Get to know Troop 8” event. The entire Pack is invited, along with Parents. Our goal is to get the Pack and Troop to know each other better, and show the Pack what we do as a Troop.

The date is SaturdayOctober 22nd, at UCC Greenawalds, rain or shine, from 10AM to 1PM. Some of the Scouts from the Troop will be making lunch for everyone (Adults included), and hopefully will get some of the Cubs to help. While that is going on, the rest of the Troop will work with the Cubs in building a gigantic Tipi, as a demonstration of the type of activities/skills that the Troop does.

If it rains, then we will move indoors and have other activities that can be done. Regardless of the weather, the Troop will cook lunch.

This is a great opportunity to learn something about what the next part of your scouting journey mighmight like. Webelos II’s are strongly encouraged to attend, as you may well be a member of Troop 8 next year!

5/14/16 Camp Seranova trip

Originally planned as a sleepover camping trip, our visit to Camp Seranova was converted into a day trip, with fishing and cooking. Several scouts completed requirements fulfilled by hiking, building fires and cooking on them, and just enjoying the scenery. Here are some of the photos captured that day:
